The West Virginia Innocence Project is based out of the WVU College of Law, which works to exonerate West Virginians of crimes they did not commit. It was founded in 2012, under Professor Valena Beety. We work to fix the problems that lead to wrongful convictions in our justice system, specifically with regard to how those problems impact West Virginians.
Most recently, we have had several victories. Philip Barnett, the brother of WVIP client, Nathan Barnett was released from prison for a murder they both did not commit. The Barnett brothers are a part of a co defendant murder case. Please see the link below to learn more:
