DECA (https://www.deca.org/college-programs/international-career-development-conference-college/) is an international organization that operates at both the high school and college level. Their mission is prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. To that end, DECA provides instructional/experiential learning for the classroom as well as holding annual conferences.
Collegiate DECA provides opportunities for both personal and professional growth through leadership development, community involvement and competitive events. In mid February, the WVU Collegiate DECA Chapter held a mock competition to WV high school students to help them prepare for their state competition in a few weeks.There are about 15,000 college student members from 250 campuses across the world who belong to DECA. The WVU Collegiate Chapter began in 2015 and has grown to about 40 members.
Part of the Collegiate DECA experience is an annual conference. These conferences help provide members with unique access to internships, scholarships and professional networking. In addition, the conference features a case style competition. Students compete for top honors in 24 separate categories represent the various business disciplines such as accounting, finance, HR and marketing. The current DECA Collegiate Chapter President, Amy Toscano (supply chain major) has been a finalist in her freshman, sophomore and junior year. (among 2,000 competitors)!
A gift of $25 will help cover the costs associated with presentation materials.
A gift of $700 will cover the full cost of a student attendee including hotel and travel.
