Hospital stays can be scary and stressful for patients at any age. Children are incredibly perceptive to their surroundings and are affected the most by their environment. They may not know what to expect in what is typically an unfamiliar setting associated with pain and illness. The new WVU Medicine Children’s tower will help alleviate fear and reduce stress through lighting in patient rooms, an area they should feel safe and comfortable.
Children will be able to choose the color they like most. Studies show using ambient lighting is effective as distraction therapy and makes work more efficient for hospital staff.
In honor of the neon ambient lights that will be throughout the new hospital, The Beauty Bar is lighting up Code’s White Lounge with neon to raise money for the WVU Medicine Children’s capital campaign. The 150-bed, nine-story tower adjacent to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, is scheduled to be completed in early 2021.
