Our Crowdfunding Groups
The College of Business and Economics Corporate Social Responsibility course aims to teach WVU students the importance of giving back to the community through corporate philanthropy and volunteer work. The course provides knowledge of the non-profit sector and how to invest resources in meeting community needs. It provides students with an avenue to contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the local workforce, the community and society at large.
Since its inception in 2001, the program has awarded more than $240,000 to worthy local community projects in northern West Virginia. The CSR program funding is raised through businesses, organizations and alumni donations. An investment in the CSR course/program is an opportunity for you and your company or organization to give back to the WVU/Morgantown community and also to provide an educational opportunity to young professionals regarding the importance of philanthropy. Your gift will have permanent impact on the continued success of the program.
Each class develops a mission statement to guide their endeavors and decisions throughout the semester. The students distribute $20,000 in grants each year to Monongalia County not-for-profit agencies. Thus, the students receive invaluable training in trusteeship, enjoy the mentoring of experienced fund-raisers and distributors, become acquainted with the needs of nonprofit organizations and engage in a dialogue on the social responsibility of today’s corporations.
A gift to the CSR course will help fulfill the $20,000 project need. Students will use their skills obtained in the course to best distribute the funding to the community by selecting programs that support their mission statement.
