This project will fund the construction and equipping of 6 new study rooms in the Mary F. Shipper Library at Potomac State College of WVU.

Traditionally, college students have functioned as solitary learners with occasional opportunities to work in groups.  But today’s students learn and study in more active settings which incorporate more collaborative interactions and utilize a wider array of instructional resources (Internet, mobile phones, laptops, electronic resources, etc.). 

To date, the Mary F. Shipper Library’s physical building configuration (developed in the late 1960’s) has prohibited any meaningful reconfiguration of spaces for more than 1 student to successfully participate in teaching/learning activities (without disturbing others in the building).  For decades, students and faculty have requested library study rooms or other areas that foster excellence in scholarship and inquiry. 

Recent library building configurations now enable the addition of 6 study rooms that PSC students or faculty will be able to schedule for use.  The addition of these collaborative learning spaces represents one of the most significant improvements to the Library’s ability to effectively serve our students and faculty. 

Fundraising will include the costs of constructing the rooms on the Library’s Second Floor, furnishing and equipping the rooms, and establishing an endowment library for future Library expenses.
